Entering the Void & The Magic of Indra’s Net
When I mention I’m going on a meditation retreat, people usually give me an envious eyebrow raise. They think it’s some relaxing spa escape, but anyone who’s ever done a Chan meditation intensive will tell you it’s a total gauntlet. 😅
From June 6th through the 18th, I’m completely unplugging from screens, caffeine, and nicotine to re-enter the void. I’m heading into Noble Silence to focus on the Avatamsaka Sutra. This ancient text talks about one of my fave mind-bending concepts called Indra’s Net.
The philosopher Alan Watts used to describe Indra’s Net as an infinite cosmic web that stretches across the entire universe. At every single intersection of this web, there’s a glittering jewel.
Each one of those jewels perfectly reflects every other jewel in the net, infinitely. It’s a gorgeous metaphor for how deeply connected we all are in this life, and the ripple effects of every action.
This session will be one of deeply contemplative, focused, visualization and world building. A fantastical journey into our imaginations and hopefully tapping into something deeper, infinitely deeper.

Before I head off to my retreat, I gotta tell you about the Charley Crockett show I went to recently. It was so much fun but it was a total tease because now I desperately wanna go dancing! The fact that security was making people who started dancing at the show, get back in their assigned seats, was fucking CRAZY!
